CORONA, Calif., (June 23, 2008) ”“ Monster Energy/Andrews/Yamaha’s
Dustin Gibson raced to a 3rd place finish this past weekend at round
eight of the 2008 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country series (GNCC’s)
and moved closer to the overall XC2 class points lead as he trails
Thaddeus Duval 199-172 with five rounds remaining on the GNCC schedule.

Gibson, on the box for the second-straight weekend and sixth time in
eight races, pulled an excellent start and led the XC2 class after the
first lap, with Monster Energy/Andrews/Yamaha teammate Josh Weisenfels
in hot pursuit (5th) and Dave Snyder close to the top ten as well in
12th. As the dust began to thicken Gibson center punched a tree that
he didn’t see and ended up falling back to 5th place. At the same time
Weisenfels was making his move to the front of the pack.

“I was never so scared at a race,” said Gibson. “I hit a tree in the
dust and crashed. I never saw the tree. The dust was so bad. I started
to get back in my zone and pushed the last lap.”Â

Trees popping up in front of the Monster Energy/Andrews/Yamaha racers
seemed to be the thing at Yadkinville as no sooner than he caught up
with the leaders Weisenfels was felled by a tree as well, which
unfortunately ended his day (shoulder).

“I got up to the leader an was riding blind because of the dust,” said
Weisenfels. “I was trying to pass for the lead when I hit a tree with
my shoulder and that was it.”Â

When the two lap board came out Gibson and Snyder made their move to
the front. At the white flag Gibson was one minute down from 3rd place
and charging, making some excellent last lap passes to secure third
and finish ahead of Duval (4th). Snyder was on it as well, cracking
the top ten (10th) for the second-straight week.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Andrews/Yamaha team is the July 6th
GNCC in Somerset, Pa.
