  3. Racers must first obtain a transponder. Units can be purchased/rented at each event.  For best results, mount the unit on the racer’s chest protector or on the front fender.  Transponders have a 2-year battery life from the date printed on the unit.  Once the unit fails to read at Tech Inspection, or exceeds the battery life, racers must purchase/rent a new unit.
  4. Racers will receive two numbered Helmet Tags for emergency back-up scoring, to be placed on either side of the helmet chin area, and a class color-coded tag to be placed on the back of the helmet. Helmet tags may not be trimmed less than 3”. The tag must be placed at the base of the back of the helmet so as not to be covered by the goggle strap.
  5. All machines and racer helmets must be taken through Tech Inspection prior to racing for the purpose of inspecting transponder functionality, Helmet Tag placement, number assignment, ATV machine width, and contingency eligibility. Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the racer.

F. START PROCEDURE:

  1. Start Selection: The Start Horn will signal that the XC1 Class will line up in 15 minutes.  XC1, 4x4 Pro and WXC classes will line up during Opening Ceremonies.  XC2 and XC3 classes will select start positions immediately after the start of their respective morning Amateur race.   Place markers will be provided for this purpose.
  2. Start Rows:
    XC1Row 1
    XC2Row 2
    XC3Row 3
  3. Start Positions:
    a. XC1 Class: Start positions for Round 1 only will be determined by the Top 10 XC1 finishers from the previous year’s Overall point standings.  For the remaining rounds, the current Top 10 XC1 in Overall points will get the first 10 start picks.
    b. XC2/XC3/4x4/WXC Pro Class: Start positions for Round 1 only will be determined by the Top 10 finishers from the previous year’s Class point standings.  For the remaining rounds, the current Top 10 in Class point standings will get the first 10 start picks.
    c. Racers will draw for remaining positions at the time of registration.
    d. Racers must be prepared to line up when called or risk losing their start position choice.
    e. The Start Line and all refueling areas are designated “No Smoking”
  4. Snowshoe: For the Snowshoe PM Pro event only, a block of rows will be designated for each class.  The Top 20 overall in series points, regardless of class, will start on the first four rows.   Thereafter, the remaining Top 5 in class points will start on the first row designated for the class. The remainder of the class will draw for Start Row assignment at registration.
  5. The Riders Meeting will be conducted on the Start Line prior to opening ceremonies. All racers are responsible for attending.  Machines must be dead engine during Riders Meeting.
  6. Upon the official’s signal, all persons must clear the Start Line for opening ceremonies.
  7. GNCC is a dead engine start. When the track is cleared for the start:
    a. The blue flag will signal all racers to shut down their engines.
    b. 30 seconds later the Referee will extend his arm to signal “10 Seconds” before the start of the race.
    c. At the “10 Seconds” signal, all crew members must step behind the racers and may have no physical contact with a racer or their machine.
    d. Between 8 and 10 seconds, the green flag will be thrown, signaling the start of the race.
    e. The time between the start of each row will be approximately 30 seconds, with the exception that the time after the start of the 4x4 Pro and WXC classes will be one minute.
  8. Early Starts: Racers starting their machines prior to the green flag signal or taking off early or with the wrong row will be penalized.  Whenever possible, racers in violation of the start procedure will be stopped and held at the Finish Line on the first lap for a time penalty, in lieu of a post-race position or timed penalty.  As a rule of thumb, racers who start their engine prior to the green flag and shut it down completely without disruption to other racers will be held for 15: seconds; racers who start their engine prior to the green flag but do not shut it down completely before the start will be held for 30: seconds; racers who start their engine and take off early prior to the green flag will be docked one lap. Any engine started between the time the Referee fully extends his arm to signal “10 Seconds” and the green flag is thrown, will be considered in violation of this rule.
  9. Racers missing the start of their class must enter the racecourse at the start line and complete the start chute.
  10. The machine a racer leaves the starting line with is the official machine of the racer for that event and may not be switched during the event.
  11. ATV racers are required to start the event with their tether cord properly affixed and in working order.

G. THE COURSE:

  1. A GNCC course may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, motocross tracks, or any type of terrain which can be negotiated by a motorcycle or ATV.
  2. The pro course will be marked with Red Arrows on a white background and Black Arrows on an orange background.
  3. The course will be open for inspection commencing on Saturday for XC1/XC2/XC3 Bikes, and Friday through Sunday for all other classes. Competitors are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only; e-MTBs or non-throttle pedal-assist cycles are permitted for this purpose.
  4. Marking, cutting, tampering with or otherwise changing the course in any manner is strictly prohibited. Course modifications may only be made by an official.
  5. No one, except officials and racers officially entered in the race program, may ride on the racecourse at any time during the event.
  6. Racers will be disqualified for riding a GNCC course during the 7 days prior to the first day of the event.
  7. Motocross Tracks: The infield of a motocross track is a restricted area, accessible by race officials and staff only.  Trackside pitting is prohibited inside the fence barrier of a motocross track, and team members and race fans must remain outside the fence line.

H. SCORING:

  1. Transponder scoring is the official scoring procedure for GNCC.
  2. There will be three checkpoints throughout the racecourse: one at the Finish Line and two Outpost checkpoints. Racers must come to a complete stop at the Finish Line checkpoint, but not at the Outpost checkpoints.
  3. Checkpoints are "No Passing" The section from the Finish Line to the Finish Line checkpoint is a "No Passing" zone. In addition, checkpoints will be marked with double arrows, indicating racers must stay within the confines of the course markers.
  4. Racers may not be serviced or pitted in the area between the Finish Line and the Finish Line checkpoint or in the area immediately after the Finish Line checkpoint.
  5. GPS Devices: Upon request by Race Officials, Pro competitors must wear GPS devices during competition. All such GPS devices will be provided by GNCC Racing and must be returned immediately upon completion of the race.  Competitors will be responsible for the safe return of the device.

I. ON TRACK REGULATIONS:

  1. Racers must remain on the marked course. The marked course is within 25 feet of race arrows. However, racers must stay within the confines of the following markers:  Double Striped Placards posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, motocross track, grass track, etc..
  2. Racers encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may go more than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck only. However, the racer must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the racer must stay on the original marked course. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of checkpoints.
  3. Racers may not cut to the inside of a white pole corner marker.
  4. Racers may not carry gasoline anywhere except inside the machine's fuel tank.
  5. Racers must fuel in their Designated Pro Pit Area. The “designated” Pro Pit area shall be the area immediately adjacent to the side of a racer’s team transport facing the racecourse and will be marked with yellow markers or ground paint.  In the event of no markings, the area shall extend no farther than 20 feet from the edge of the racer’s team transport and any awning attached thereto.
  6. In the event a racer runs completely out of fuel, he may obtain fuel from any source along the racecourse, sufficient only enough to allow him to return to his designated Pro Pit area, where he MUST stop and refuel, regardless of whether he needs the fuel to complete the race, unless his designated Pro Pit area is beyond the finish line and the race is complete. To constitute being “completely” out of fuel, the motor must shut off on its own.  Violation of this provision will result in a minimum penalty of one position.
  7. If a racer leaves the course for any reason they must re-enter where they left the course. Provided, however, that a racer may not leave the racecourse for the purpose of obtaining fuel.
  8. With the exception of fueling, racers may make repairs and otherwise receive mechanical assistance anywhere along the course from anyone. All such repairs and assistance must be made without causing interference with other racers and in a suitable area off the racetrack.
  9. Proper Passing. Racers who are about to be overtaken by faster racers should hold their line and not impede the progress of the faster racer, AND WHEN CONDITIONS ALLOW, they should move over to allow the racer overtaking them to pass unimpeded.  Racers about to be overtaken may also point downward to either their left or their right to signal to the faster racer the side that it is safe to pass.
  10. Radios are permitted between pit crew members, but not with or between a racer.
  11. Reckless Riding. No racer may ride in such a manner as to endanger life or limb of other racers, officials or the public. Racers will be penalized for the reckless operation of their machine, including but not limited to the deliberate ramming, blocking or intentional contact with another racer, or for running into an official.
  12. Team Tactics are prohibited and include but are not limited to: altering the race course, marking the race course, blocking course lines, blocking racers, allowing another racer to pass in order to affect the outcome of the race, or exchanging machines in order for another racer to continue the race. Racers, team members or spectators involved will be penalized, including but not limited to disqualification, removal and suspension from GNCC.
  13. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Persons whose appearance, conduct, associations or affiliations, on or off the track, deemed harmful or otherwise not conducive to the best interest of the sport or who exhibit conduct deemed inappropriate, offensive, abrasive or in bad taste, may be excluded or suspended from GNCC at the discretion of the Race Director.

Participants engaged in any event, public appearance, media activity or any other situation relating to their participation in the series must refrain from intentional physical contact with any participant, inappropriate or profane language, fraud, and unsportsmanlike behavior. At the sole discretion of GNCC, participants who exhibit behaviors deemed inappropriate or unsportsmanlike, prejudicial or detrimental to the best interests of the sport, or detract from the enjoyment, appreciation or interests of the fans, sponsors or other supporters of the sport, may be penalized by monetary fine, docking of championship points, or both. Such penalties are not subject to protest or appeal.

J. RACE FINISHES:

  1. The race officially ends for all contestants at the completion of the lap in which the checkered flag is displayed to the winner.
  2. To be considered as having completed a lap, the racer must remain with his machine with his helmet on, at all times, and both racer and machine must cross the plane of the checkered flag under the racer’s own unaided ability. No credit will be given for any distance covered during which time the racer’s helmet was removed.
  3. Towing is not allowed. Racers whose disabled machines are towed back to the pit area by staff or otherwise, for any reason, are not eligible to return to competition. Any laps earned by a racer that returns to competition after receiving a tow back to the pit area will be removed.  If a racer desires to repair their machine and return to the competition, they must decline the offer to tow their machine back to the pit area.  This rule does not apply to racers towed only a short distance in order to dislodge the machine from a track obstacle (i.e., mud pit, deep rut, ravine, etc.) or to bump-start their machine.
  4. Racers will be scored in order of their finish and number of laps completed. It is not necessary to complete all laps in order to receive a score.
  5. Overall: The overall for the event will be awarded to the overall winner of the race, regardless of class entered.
  6. Podium: The Top (3) Overall and Top (3) finishers per class will be recognized on the podium;
  7. Burnouts on the podium are prohibited. Violation of this provision will result in a penalty, including but not limited to fine and/or disqualification.
  8. Results: Racers have 50 minutes to finish the race after the overall winner takes the checkered flag. A racer may question the results within the 30-minute period following posting of final results. After 30 minutes, awards will be given out and results will be final unless a protest is pending.  Provided, however, that the issuance of official results does not exempt racers who competed in the event from penalties for rules violations issued by GNCC Racing following the protest period.
  9. Impound: If directed, the top 3 overall racers, as well as any other racer requested by an official to do so, must leave their machines at a designated impound area for post-race inspection until released by the official.
  10. Protests must be in writing and comply with the GNCC Protest Procedure, available HERE. Racers may only protest matters regarding a class in which they were a registered participant.
  11. Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the Race Director based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following: position(s), lap(s), time adjustment, disqualification, suspension, loss of championship points, loss of prize money, fine, probation, etc.  A sliding penalty severity scale may be imposed for repeat offenders.  A Penalty Log will be maintained for this purpose.
  12. Purse earnings will be distributed via the GNCC Direct Deposit Program. All racers earning a purse must submit a Direct Deposit Application, available HERE.

K. VIDEO REVIEW GUIDELINES:

Video evidence of alleged course violations will be reviewed as follows:

  1. The video must be submitted by a racer in the competition or their authorized representative in a timely manner, i.e., within 30 minutes after the results are posted.
  2. The video should contain a continuous feed of the section of the racecourse where the alleged violation occurred, including footage of racers on the same team submitting the video whenever possible. Short clips of opposing team racers only may not be considered in the sole discretion of the official.
  3. A Video Submittal Statement must be submitted with the video, identifying the location on the course where the video was taken, the lap the video was taken, the race rule alleged to have been violated, the racers alleged to have violated the race rule, the person who took the video, and a statement by the person submitting the video declaring whether or not the racer or racers on their team took the same line. Officials may refuse to review video submitted with unclean hands, i.e., in bad faith.
  4. Team Managers authorized to represent racers in the competition are expected to bring race violations or course problems to the immediate attention of race officials so that the problem may be addressed as soon as possible in order to help preserve the integrity of the race and the racecourse.

L. MECHANICS AND PRO PIT AREA

  1. Racers are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew.
