GNCC Racing Takes on Snowshoe Mountain This Weekend
Neal and Russell Aim For Snowshoe Wins on Saturday and Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 23, 2022) – The Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, heads to Snowshoe, West Virginia for the ninth round of racing, Yamaha Racing Snowshoe GNCC this weekend. The event continues to pay tribute to the famed “Blackwater 100” as the Snowshoe race starts “in town” with riders line up on the main road.

On Saturday, the ATV Pro riders will take to the course atop Snowshoe Mountain with Magna1 Motorsports’ Brycen Neal leading the points over WFR/GBC/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Walker Fowler. Neal and Fowler have continued to battle throughout the season with Neal winning the last five-straight races. This weekend Fowler is looking to take back that number one spot and remain king of the mountain. However, Neal is looking to continue his winning ways this weekend and extend his points lead.

GBC/Fly Racing/Nine 2/BNR Motorsports’ Devon Feehan rounded out the podium at the previous race, and this weekend he will be aiming to battle at the front of the pack once again. Getter Nissan/Kenda/Action Off-Road/Richardson Racing’s Cole Richardson finished right outside of the podium so he will be looking to get back on the podium and battle for the coveted Snowshoe win. The Original Formula 88/Ithaca Recreation Sports/Maxxis/Fly Racing’s Hunter Hart rounded out the top five, but he is aiming to get back into the top three for a podium contention on Saturday afternoon.

Branden Owens will look to battle for another XC2 class win.

In the XC2 Pro-Am class it was Pirate MX Powersports/OBOR Tires/Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited-backed Branden Owens earning the win at round eight, and he will be aiming to keep that momentum going into this weekend’s race. Action Off-Road/DIRTNASTY/Twizted Vision’s Wyatt Wilkin and Action Off-Road/Pro Graphx/Pierce Performances’ Jay Shadron rounded out the top three in XC2, but this weekend they both will be looking to battle back into that number one spot.

Two weeks ago, in the 4x4 Pro class it was Kenda/Nine2/Custom Axis’ Cody Collier coming through to earn his fifth win of the season, and this weekend Collier will be aiming to continue his winning ways atop Snowshoe Mountain. OBOR/Can-Am/Action Off-Road’s Landon Wolfe, who’s continued to race a modified season, came through to earn second in the class followed by Stewart Boys Racing/Action Off-Road/DeRisi/HMF’s Haedyn Mickelson who earned third in the class. Both Wolfe and Mickelson will be aiming to take that number one spot away from Collier this weekend. While Mickelson continues to lead the points standings after eight rounds of racing.

Hannah Hunter continues to lead the way in the WXC class.

In the WXC class Hannah Hurricane Hunter/OBOR Tires/Fly Racing’s Hannah Hunter is looking to earn another win this season and extend her points lead. After earning her first podium finish of the season Stewart Boys Racing/Action Off-Road/Kenda Tire’s Andrea Rodgers is aiming to battle at the front of the pack once again while Venom Powersports/Turtle Racing Engines/DeRisi/Kenda's Morgan Solesbee is also looking to battle up front once again for a podium finish this weekend at Snowshoe.

The Specialized Turbo eMTB GNCC National Championship continues this weekend on Saturday afternoon. After earning the win two weeks ago in Pennsylvania, Rouleur Coaching/Ride Kanuga/Specialized’s Cypress Gorry is hoping for another win and to challenge Gear Bicycles/Specialized’s Charlie Mullins for the National Championship as he sits just three points behind Mullins. However, Mullins is looking to take back that number one spot and continue his reign of the eMTB series. Another rider looking to mix it up this weekend will be Gear Bicycles/Specialized’s Nick Mackie as he rounded out the podium at the previous race.

Ricky Russell will be looking to keep his momentum rolling this weekend.

Then on Sunday the Pro Motorcycle racers will take on Snowshoe Mountain, and it looks like Coastal GASGAS Factory Racing’s Ricky Russell will be on a mission to keep his momentum rolling after earning the win two weeks ago. Russell will have some stiff competition as Rev Motorsports/GASGAS Racing’s Grant Baylor and Magna1 Motorsports/Husqvarna’s Jordan Ashburn rounded out the podium at the previous race in Pennsylvania. Also looking to battle at the front are Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Craig DeLong and Babbitt’s Online/Monster Energy/Kawasaki Team Green’s Josh Strang, who have both been at the front at some point this season and are both looking to return to the front this weekend.

In the XC2 250 Pro class there also seems to be a handful of racers that could battle at the front for the win. However, Coastal GASGAS Factory Racing’s Ryder Lafferty is aiming to earn another win this weekend and close in on the number one position in the points standings. Lafftery will have to battle with Babbitt’s Online/Monster Energy/Kawasaki Team Green’s Lyndon Snodgrass for that win, and the points lead as he holds onto that lead after eight rounds of racing. Phoenix Racing’s Ruy Barbosa has also been a consistent racer at the front for the past couple of races and is looking to continue battling up front this weekend in West Virginia.

Tayla Jones continues to hold the points lead in the WXC class.

The FMF XC3 class continues to see the battle between Magna1 Motorsports/Husqvarna’s Brody Johnson and Carolina XC/Moose Racing/XC Gear’s Zack Hayes for the points lead. Hayes continues to hold the lead after a consistent season thus far, while Johnson has earned five wins, he has also had some bad luck at the other races finishing outside of the top five. Husqvarna/Fly Racing/Coppersmith Racing’s Jake Froman continues to battle for his second win of the season, and he will be aiming for that center spot on the podium once again this weekend.

After earning her fourth win two weeks ago, Rockstar Husqvarna/Surge Off-Road Coaching Team’s Tayla Jones leads the way in the points standings. This weekend Jones is hoping to add a Snowshoe win to the list for 2022, but she will have a handful of women looking to put a stop to her winning ways. Fly Racing/FMF Racing/KTM Racing’s Brandy Richards has four second place finishes in the four races she has competed in this season, and this weekend if she lines up at the GNCC event she will be aiming to get that number one spot from Jones. Trail Jesters/KTM Racing’s Korie Steede stands second in the points after eight rounds of racing. Steede has earned two wins this season but is hoping to get back up front and battle for the win atop the mountain on Sunday morning.

The Snowshoe GNCC is unlike any other event, and we want to make sure you are as up-to-date as possible on this weekend’s activities.
