Trail Jesters KTM Racing – Burr Oak GNCC Race Report
The Trail Jesters KTM Team hit the road and headed to Millfield, Ohio for round 10 of the 2020 Grand National Cross Country series. At the wave of the green flag the XC2 class was off in a roar as Johnny Girroir got a great jump and made his way into the lead group as they headed out into the woods with him sitting in 4th place. Girroir pushed himself ahead during the opening lap making valuable passes and battling his way up to take over the XC2 lead. From then on Girroir held the lead with 2nd place holding steady behind him keeping him honest all day. As the checkered flag flew, Girroir crossed the finish line 1st in XC2 and 4th overall, just shy of the overall podium and taking over sole possesion of the XC2 championship points. When asked about the season through round 10 Girroir stated, “I feel good about my season, I’m going to push really hard and try to have a strong finish.”
Also on the XC2 line and back from injury was Jesse Ansley, and as the pack headed through the first corners and out into the woods Ansley found himself sitting in a mid pack position. Jesse latched onto the lead group of riders through the first lap and battled for positions, and when they checked in at the completion of lap one Ansley sat 9th in XC2. Throughout the second lap Jesse battled hard for the 8th place position with more competition also hot on his tail. As the race came to an end Ansley crossed the finish line in 8th in XC2 and 15th overall. Walking away from this race Ansley was happy with how his race started, and some accomplishments that happened on the course as he said “This was the first race I was a part of the front running “train” and it helps so much. I felt good and was in battles all day long until the 2 lap board came out. Unfortunately I faded pretty hard but was able to salvage 8th which I was happy about considering.”
Taylor Johnston lined up in the WXC class again this weekend as the green flag waved. Johnston was quick to react and had a great jump off the line as she made her way into the first corner in the top three and made a pass before even hitting the woods. Thrilled on her start Taylor said, “I’m really excited to continue improving my starts and maybe grab a holeshot before the end of the year!” Through the silty and dusty conditions, Johnston spent the first three laps of the race in 6th place battling with her competition to keep the position until a poor line choice sent her over the bars and out of her groove. Johnston went on to spend the remainder of the race in 7th place in class and crossed the finish this way. “I’m pretty happy with the season thus far. It’s a learning year for me and I’m definitely learning a lot. It seems like we’re changing one thing or another every race, but in the end it’ll make next year easier to adapt to.” Taylor stated.
On the 150A class line Brayden Nolette grabbed the holeshot and led the way into the woods to begin the three hour long race. During the first lap push, Nolette, found himself getting hung up in a pile up which cost him the lead and some time as he came around to end lap one sitting in 4th place. Enjoying the terrain this course had to offer, Nolette was able to make vital passes and move his way up to the 2nd place spot in his class by the halfway point of the race. After the race, Brayden said “I liked this track because it has a bit of everything. Slick hard pack and slick wet terrain, which was awesome to have the diversity.” At the end of the 3 hour race Nolette finished the day 2nd in 150A and 26th overall.
