The entire GNCC Racing Family was shocked and saddened by the passing of long-time KTM rider and racing fan Robert Lee Hammond during the Sunday morning bike race at the Wiseco John Penton GNCC over the weekend. Hammond worked for KTM as their Logistics Manager in their Amherst, Ohio headquarters. He was competing in his first GNCC, and passed during the first lap of Sunday’s race. While final medical reports are not yet available, indications are that Lee suffered cardiac arrest while riding. After being alerted to a downed rider, members of the GNCC track crew located Lee on the trail and administered CPR in an effort to resuscitate him. Sadly, Lee had already passed.
The KTM crew at the track was shocked to hear of the loss of one of their colleagues, as were the rest of the racers participating in the event.
We will post information on funeral services as soon as they are available. God Speed, Lee.
The following paragraph was sent to us from KTM:
Lee was a very integral member of our team and one we relied on every day. He will be missed, both personally and professionally, and his services to KTM will be hard to replace. He will be remembered for always having a smile on his face, and having the heart of a pure motorcycle enthusiast.
