McGill Looks to Halt Fowler’s Success at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC
Mountaineer Run GNCC
Borich and McClure Set Eyes on Overall Win

N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Walker Fowler heads into the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Mountaineer Run GNCC with a total of six overall wins in the 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship. While Fowler is in a favorable position to earn a second National Championship, the fifth annual Mountaineer Run GNCC win and the title still remain anyone’s to claim.

One rider who will be looking to steal the top spot from Fowler is CST/LSR/Induction Solutions/DeRisi/SG/Tire Blocks’ Adam McGill. McGill, a West Virginia native, is well aware of the conditions that will be present this weekend, September 24 and 25, at Marvin’s Mountain Top where he took the overall win back in 2015. After a disappointing seventh place finish just two weeks ago in New York at the Unadilla GNCC, McGill will be looking for redemption in front of his hometown crowd. However, the rise to success will not be easy as Fowler heads into this weekend fresh off his commanding win in New York where he beat his closest competition by nearly two minutes.

Maxxis/Fly Racing/HMF/Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Suzuki’s Chris Borich has only finished outside of the top-five once this year, but still lacks an overall win. The six-time champion recently acquired a new trainer, and this could serve as the extra push Borich needs in order to claim his first victory of the season. Coastal Racing/MSR/Maxxis’ Brycen Neal is facing a similar situation as Borich where he has multiple podium finishes, but no wins thus far. Both Borich and Neal will be on the hunt this weekend for the number one spot.

JMR/ATVriders.com/DWT’s Jarrod McClure comes into this Saturday fresh off his best finish of the season. McClure has produced consistent results this season and will aim to use his Unadilla finish as motivation to make his bid for another podium finish or the overall win this Saturday.

After battling with McClure in New York until he faced illness, N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Cole Richardson will be back in the mix this weekend. Richardson placed an impressive sixth overall at the Mountaineer Run GNCC in 2015 while competing in the XC2 Pro-Am class, and will use that knowledge to his advantage moving into this weekend.

Another rider to keep an eye on this weekend is Show Hauler/Canyon Motorsports/GBC’s Landon Wolfe. Although he may be out of contention for the National Championship, his fifth place breakout ride finish at the Unadilla GNCC proves that he isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Wolfe has the potential to land his first professional career podium this Saturday, and will be looking to finish his season off strong.

The XC2 Pro-Am class has been just as exciting to follow this year where there has been a total of five different class winners, including Goldspeed/Hygear Suspension/Waynesburg Yamaha/Moto-Xperts/Spider Graphix’s Greg Covert who currently stands atop of the points standings. Covert made a last lap pass on his closest competition of Dillinger's Celtic Pub & Eatery/GBC Motorsports/Moose Racing’s Marty Christofferson at the last race, and the two-front runners are sure to put on another show this weekend in West Virginia. ITP/Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Walsh Racecraft’s Westley Wolfe sits within striking distance of Christofferson in the points championship, and JMR/ATVriders.com/DWT’s Randy Hamilton and Pierce Performance’s Cody Collier round out the top five XC2 Pro-Am competitors heading into the eleventh round.

Current 4x4 Pro points leader, Cunningham Racing/Can-Am/Spider Graphix/Gold Speed’s Kevin Cunningham, will aim to continue his four-round podium streak this weekend, and fend off class veterans Can-Am/QuadBoss-backed Bryan Buckhannon and Team UXC Racing’s Kevin Trantham who sit ranked second and third in the National Championship standings.

Defending WXC Champion Angel Knox returned to the racing scene at the Unadilla GNCC where she scored a second place finish, but Knox will have here work cut out for her this weekend between Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Maxxis/Fox Shocks’ Alicia McCormick, Houser Racing/Maxxis/Ye Olde Cycle Barn’s Kara Frederick and GBC/BNR/Spider Graphix’s Kara Merritt who all have a full ten rounds behind them this season.

Saturday’s race schedule is as follows: Youth ATV racing begins at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs, 4x4 Pro and Women at 10 a.m., and the top amateurs and pros race at 1 p.m. Following Saturday’s afternoon race will be 50cc Micro racing taking place at 4:30 p.m.

Adult (12+) gate admission is $20 for the full weekend and $10 for kids (6-11), with kids five and under free. Gate admission includes pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge.

With varied terrain, including hills, woods, mud, dirt, rocks and motocross sections, GNCC events are tests of both survival and speed. The series draws talent from all over the U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. GNCC Racing is televised weekly on NBC Sports and RacerTV.com.
