SUBJECT: COMPETITION BULLETIN 2016-10:
Section G.2 (The Course) of the 2016 GNCC Pro Competition Rules provides that XC1/XC2 (Bike) and XC1 (ATV) riders may inspect the race course the day of the race only. 4x4 Pro riders may inspect the course Friday. The rule provides that participants are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only. The intent is not to permit motorized vehicles.
A question has arisen with regard to the use of pedal assist cycles for this purpose. Pedal-assist cycles are a new technology of electric bicycles. It is the opinion of GNCC Racing that pedal assist cycles can be used for purposes of course inspection, so long as the cycle does not have a throttle.
Accordingly, effective immediately, the rule with regard to course inspections is amended as follows:
XC1/XC2 (Bike) and XC1 (ATV) riders may inspect the race course the day of the race only. 4x4 Pro riders may inspect the course Friday. Participants are permitted to walk or bicycle the course only; Non-throttle pedal assist cycles are permissible for this purpose.
Although we prefer not to make rule changes during the race season, in this case a change was deemed necessary to clarify the use of new technology.
