Team NAC Racing Report: Round 3 - Camp Coker Bullet GNCC

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 | 4:05 PM

Team NAC Racing salvaged valuable championship points at the inaugural Camp Coker Bullet GNCC on Saturday despite an unfortunate mechanical issue on the final lap of racing.

Team driver John Barnes and his co-pilot Philip McGhee Jr. began on row two, where they powered their Polaris machine into the 3rd place position off the start. Barnes engaged in a battle with front-runners Tim Farr and Bill Patterson on the opening lap, where he intentionally dropped back near the end of lap one due to low visibility in the dust.

By the halfway point, Barnes had fought his way from outside the top ten overall to a solid 6th place on the adjusted time clock. Barnes then began to battle back and forth with John Yokley until a mechanical problem caused Yokley to pull off. Just as Barnes moved into a top-five position on the final lap, he also experienced a problem that ended his day before crossing the finish.

"It was a rough race," Barnes said. "On the final lap, we had just moved into 5th place and the engine fan stopped working, causing the machine to overheat and ultimately end our day."

Despite not being able to cross the finish line, Barnes was able to salvage 12th place in the XC1 Pro class as only ten drivers were able to stay on the lead lap.

Team NAC Racing now sits in 8th place in the XC1 Pro Championship Standings with three rounds left to go this season.

The team would like to extend a big thanks to its sponsors for the 2016 season: STI Tire & Wheel/Roctane HD tires, OMF, Yokley Racing Suspension, Super ATV, SSi Decal, New Appearance Cabinet, Total Medical Solutions, CCAD, RZR Extreme, America's Motorsport, Slick Racing and Alba Racing.
