Team Big Country Powersports Report: Mountaineer Run GNCC

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 | 9:55 AM

It was a challenging day of racing for Team Big Country Powersports as round three of the six-race GNCC Side-by-Side Championship presented some of the circuit’s most brutal terrain in Masontown, West Virginia. While holding the lead position, Team Driver John Yokley suffered an unfortunate mechanical issue due to the unpredictable rocks at the Mountaineer Run GNCC.

With nearly 70 machines lining up for the Side-by-Side competition on Saturday, the afternoon’s race was set to be a challenging one as only 23 machines crossed the finish line on the lead lap after one hour of racing. Starting on the second row, John Yokley and his passenger Jarrod McClure proved to be up for the challenge as the duo shot out of the holeshot on the Polaris RZR S 900. By the second lap Yokley had put himself into the lead on the adjusted time clock, which became a big advantage for the Kentucky native.

“Starting on the second row turned out to be an advantage for me because once I caught Kyle Chaney and Larry Hendershot [the leaders] it was my plan to follow them to the checkers because they started on the front row,” Yokley commented.

However, misfortune struck as Yokley was running in the number one position and the team’s day came to a quick end.

“I must have caught a rock just right and didn’t even realize it so I eventually lost all my oil and ended the day,” Yokley added. “Despite the rough conditions, our setup felt amazing and the car was running flawlessly so we were really having a blast racing. It’s unfortunate to have a problem that’s out of our control but we’re looking forward to coming back stronger at the next round and going for the win!”

The GNCC Side-by-Side Championship returns to action Saturday, June 6 in Millfield, Ohio with the John Penton GNCC. For more information on the team, please visit www.yokleyracing.com.
