Jordan Phillips has established himself as a front runner of the 4x4 Pro ranks in 2014, logging a pair of wins so far this season. We caught up with Jordan to talk about his 2014 season and more.

GNCCRacing.com: How's it going today?
Jordan Phillips: It’s going great today!

So you're a familiar face at the front of the 4x4 ranks but tell everyone a little more about yourself.
I’m Jordan Phillips and I’m from a small town in North Carolina called Green Mountain.  I’m a recent graduate from East Tennessee State University with an Engineering Technology degree.  I also got married less than 2 months ago during the Mountaineer Run to my wonderful wife Emilee!  Everything is going great in my life right now, couldn’t be happier!

That’s awesome! How did you get started racing?
In 2006, I was 15 years old and found out about GNCC Racing.  I saw on the schedule it came to Steele Creek in Morganton, North Carolina which is about an hour from my house.  Me and my Dad went to watch not knowing anything about GNCC or the sport as a whole.  I knew the 4x4 classes were awesome when I first saw them.  At the time Michael Swift, Scott Kilby, Brock Parker and Mike Penland were some of the top guys. I was literally blown away and knew I wanted to get into the sport.  I turned 16 in 2007 and I raced the Snowshoe and Yadkin Valley Stomp rounds, and ended up 5th and 4th in the 4x4 limited class.  In 2008 I raced a full season and I’ve been here racing every season since then!

What exactly attracted you to the 4x4 side of things?
Around home, it’s very mountainous and steep so I always liked riding a 4x4 ATV. Once I discovered that GNCC had 4x4 classes, I was hooked!

It’s sort of like taming a rabid beast, really?
(laughs) Yeah, something like that. It really is a blast just tearing the woods apart on an 800 v-twin machine.  It gets my adrenaline pumping every time I hear the ten second call!

What has been the biggest highlight of your racing career so far?
So far this year as a whole has been the biggest highlight of my racing career with the introduction of the 4x4 Pro class. It was much needed in my opinion for the 4x4 racing world to grow. I’m happy to be a part of it and so far this year the coverage and support are better than they ever have been.

You've had a decent 2014 season so far. Tell us how it's been going.
I’ve been able to get 2 wins so far and that was the best feeling I’ve ever had racing. I’ve been on the podium 3 times this year, which was a great feeling too.

How's it feel to have logged 2 wins in the first year of the 4x4 Pro class?
I worked hard in the off season riding and training because I knew it was going to be tough racing the guys in the 4x4 Pro class. When I got the win in Georgia I knew all the hard work had paid off.  Then I did it again in South Carolina and that was awesome too.

And the competition is pretty fierce in the class too, isn't it?
Most definitely. The guys I’m racing are the guys I’ve looked up to for the past 7 years.  Now to be out there racing with them is awesome.  Every race is intense.  The battles we have are some of the best.  At Big Buck the top 5 finished within 1 minute of each other.  It takes smooth, mistake free riding to get a win against these guys.

What do you hope to accomplish through the rest of the 2014 season?
Ideally I want to go win the last 4. I also want to come out with a top 3 in the points.

What is it going to take to make that happen?
It’s going to take training hard at the gym and seat time.  It’s hard to beat seat time.  It also takes a solid machine with no mechanical failures to get across the checkers.

What about beyond 2014? What do you hope to accomplish down the road in racing?
Right now, the plan is to come back in 2015 for the 4x4 Pro Championship!  Who knows you might see me out doing some ATV Motocross Nationals or some other motocross events on an ATV.

Alright, before we wrap this up, who would you like to thank?
