Welcome to Quick Fill.

And we’re off! We’re actually a little more than halfway through our eleven-hour stint to the Loretta Lynn Ranch, a drive that is much, much longer than I had remembered. Although it’s only been since last August that I made this trip, it still feels like forever! I decided to go ahead and bring my trusty little cattle dog to this round since we stay on the property and I have to say, she’s been nothing short of amazing on this entire trip. It never hurts to have an adorable pup in the car during a long trip; it just sort of brightens things up a bit.

As far as this weekend’s Parts Unlimited Loretta Lynn’s GNCC, there are a couple of things I want to remind everyone about. First off, please keep in mind that the Time Zone at Loretta’s is Central Daylight Time, which means they are one hour behind the east coast. If you’re traveling last minute on Saturday or Sunday morning, do not forget that important piece of information, as it may cost you a day of racing!

Also, you don’t want to forget that this Sunday, May 11, is Mother’s Day. So if you’re travelling with your mom this weekend, not only do you have to give her shotgun all weekend long, but make sure that you thank her for all that she does for you. While I think it’s important to thank your parents every day of the year, these types of Hallmark holidays are just an extra reminder to honor those special people in our lives. The folks at GNCC know how important the meaning of family is, and they certainly understand the value of moms in our sport, because mom usually means: mechanic, chef, personal assistant, maid, alarm clock, motivator, friend, teammate, etc. So that’s why GNCC will have special Mother’s Day Carnation flowers available at the registration tent on both Saturday and Sunday mornings for all the grateful sons and daughters out there who want to thank their mother for selflessly spending her special weekend at the races. There will be a limited supply each day, but the same amount will be allotted for Saturday’s ATV riders and Sunday’s bike riders, so if you’re racing bike day try to be courteous and let the ATV folks go ahead first.

Don’t make dinner plans for Saturday night, as the Parts Unlimited crew will be hosting on of their famous dinners under the big white tent at 5 p.m. They are always cooking up something delicious over there so be sure to stop over, have a bite to eat and catch up with some of the familiar faces around the track.

I want to give a big thanks to Tennessee boy Jordan Ashburn, who did a couple local radio interviews this morning. He was live on U92’s Morning Buzz show this morning and then his second interview will appear on the Froggy country station in Jackson, Tennessee sometime tomorrow.

And then tomorrow afternoon, we’re headed to Waverly Junior High School to talk to 4th – 8th graders about our positive living topics like anti-bullying, goal setting, team work and ATV/motorcycle safety tips. Ashburn will be joining the crew, along with Ryan Sipes, Rick Proctor and Kylie Ahart. I’m looking forward to a fun afternoon! But for now, I’ll pass things along to Mr. Jared Bolton.

@JaredBolton:

As I set out to write my contribution to Quick Fill this week, I felt like I had literally just sat down to write last week's entry. I've said it a lot but time definitely flies during the race season.

Personally, I went from having a dirty bike on Sunday evening to packing a semi-clean one on Wednesday afternoon, in addition to clothes and everything else I bring each weekend. But a lot of that was literally last minute because, well, like I said, time flies. We're already a ways into the month of May and before we know it, we're going see summer break creeping up.

However, we've got some racing to do first! This weekend we return to Loretta Lynn's for the first time since 2012. It felt strange not having a GNCC event at the ranch in 2013. That's the first time since 1983 there wasn't a Loretta's GNCC, but we're back and hoping it's better than ever. I've been mentioning it all season but we've got potential for some fierce racing at Loretta's. The ATV ranks are always interesting, and things are heating up on the bike side.

What hasn't been mentioned a whole lot on the bike side, are some known podium contenders who haven't really been up there yet this season. I spoke to Chris Bach and Andrew Delong this week and both of those guys are really unsatisfied with how their seasons have been going. They've both been putting in extra effort on the testing side in hopes of turning things around. They known how to land on the podium, they've done it multiple times each and once they work out their 2014 kinks, you could see them back on the box.

Another rider to keep an eye on this weekend is Takeshi Koikeda. TK had his best ride of the season at the Limestone ending up 6th in XC1 and 8th overall, and did so without a single fall all day. Now, if you go back to the last time we raced Loretta's, TK ran in podium position for most of the day, and even worked his way into the lead at one point. Coming in with the momentum from Limestone and previous success at Loretta's, TK very well could put in an excellent ride!

OffroadViking.com broke the news earlier this week with a teaser number plate picture but it looks like Nick Davis will be back in the XC2 class aboard a Canyon Motorsports-backed KTM. Nick had some struggles this season on the Suzuki, so a change of pace might be exactly what he needs.

Well, that's all I've got for this week! See you all at the ranch! Until next time, Bolt-On out!

@HotRodney22:

The question for me heading into the Parts Unlimited Loretta Lynn GNCC is where to begin and kind of like the Bob Segar song Against the Wind says in one line, “what to leave in? What to leave out?” and that’s where I am today. Personally, I’m pumped to be heading back to the Ranch for a little mid-spring fling. Last season was the first time GNCC wasn’t there and for whatever reason it did seem like a little part of my year was missing. To me, Loretta’s is like a second home and I feel as comfortable there as I do back in Ohio. There are not many places in this world I have ever been able to say that about am not sure what the lore of Loretta’s is for me in particular. There are many things and it could be a split between the racing and the actual history that sleepy little Hurricane Mills has to offer.

Obviously the racing is a major attraction bringing thousands of racers and fans from all over the world to just experience the spectacle that simply is Loretta’s. It has launched the careers of most of the modern day motocross and Supercross stars and has set the tone and changed the face of many GNCC Racing seasons. It has broken many hearts and dreams and it has set individuals on a course to greatness and realizing dreams that some may not realize they even had. Remarkably, as many hopes and dreams as Loretta Lynn’s racing brings, it all happens collectively in less than a two-week time span. And even more remarkable is the history that each one of those race days writes in the book of our great sport of motocross and off-road racing.

The non-racing historical aspect of Loretta Lynn’s goes even deeper. Spend any time on or near there you will soon be realize that this hollowed piece of ground helped shape the nation in which we live in. The ranch used to be a plantation housing several hundred slaves and to this day there are still some remnants of what took place during that period in American History. Then, of course, the mansion served at one time as a hospital and headquarters during the Civil War. Over the years history has been told and retold and with the energy that lives in those stories alone, it has captivated folks from all over the world with its stories of “ghosts and hauntings”. Heck, I myself have even witnessed things that may or may not have been supernatural but it was certainly hair-raising and exciting.

The bottom line is to make sure that you take in all that the Ranch has to offer. There is more than just the motocross track and campground. There is a side to Loretta Lynn, the property and the small little town of Hurricane Mills, which is an experience that awaits you that could possibly thrill you for a lifetime. Things that will draw you in and make you feel as much a part of the history as any place you will ever be in your life.

As far as the racing this weekend goes, it looks like Chris Borich on the ATV side of things has raised the level of competition and it has left racers once again with a feeling of going for the #2 plate. It may not be as glorious as the #1 but it’s the next best thing and if you are racing Chris Borich, it almost feels like a championship.

I realize this is by far and away kind of a smack in the face to the competition but honestly they have been smacking themselves as well to try and figure out just what it will take to challenge the champ for the title. Last season it looked like there may be someone about ready to break through and make it happen but all that did was make the problem worse. Now Walker Fowler, Chris Bithell, Adam McGill, Jarrod McClure and the boys have a beast on their hands that will not be easily tamed.

The biggest problem for the competition is the fact that even on Chris’s bad days he still finishes in the top three overall and has done this so consistently against the inconsistencies of others that they simply have not stood a chance. Chris Borich is what I like to call a “Superman of Quads” and it honestly looks like it could be this for a while until someone finds that “Quadronite” to stop his reign. And as Walker Fowler likes to call him, the old man celebrated his birthday this past week and you know he will be looking for something to sweeten things up a bit. What will the champ have in store for his celebration? I am sure the competition may be a little worried about that. And by the way Chris, Happy Birthday!

The XC2 class has certainly gotten to be rather interesting lately. In the beginning of the season, the young Cole Richardson was turning heads and setting the trails on fire with his blistering fast pace. After the first two rounds it was wondered whether anyone had anything for this newcomer. Cole nearly scored overall podiums and sat comfortably in a top four position overall after the first couple rounds. Since round three, though, it has been all about Marshal Goings, who is the one most had figured to be the man to beat in this class coming into the season. He finished second in Florida and eleventh in Georgia, but hasn’t looked back since, taking three impressive wins in a row and this weekend should set the stage for what the rest of the season holds in 2014.

I realize I haven’t talked much about the racing itself but Loretta’s is so much more than just a race. It is an experience and the racing is only a part of what this weekend will hold for you. All I can say is be prepared for anything! And with the rains forecasted there may an even bigger element to our return to the ranch. I will go on record saying that most people will come away from this race with some of the most memories of any race they may ever attend. Let’s just hope they are all good ones.

That’s it for now. Till next time, God Bless Your Heart and All Your Vital Organs.
